Closing Night Film & Awards Ceremony

Join us for the Closing Night Film & Award Ceremony!

The Youth Jury Program is an integral part of the Festival. Every year, two youth juries (ages 9-12 and ages 13-19) are formed. With guidance from Jessica Bradford, they watch and debate, critique, or champion all the short films in their age category and choose the award winners. These jurors then attend the Festival, watch the feature films in competition, and choose the award winners.

Awards Ceremony

The Closing Celebration is the moment we’ve all been waiting for. The Youth Jury members present awards of excellence to Most Inspirational, Most Innovative, and Best Animation for short films. They also award the Best Feature. These awards are part of Reel 2 Real’s commitment to the critical assessment of films for young audiences. At the Closing Celebration presentation, jurors will speak about the films they saw during the festival and explain why they selected the award winners. Year after year, filmmakers have expressed what a special honour it is for their work to be acknowledged by a Youth Jury.

In addition to the Youth Jury, R2R also has an adult jury of industry professionals. The top award is the prestigious Edith Lando Peace Prize, for "the film that best utilizes the power of cinema to further the goal of social justice and peace."
