VR DOMAIN

Blind Vaysha

Would you like to see the past and future at the same time? It’s a physical and visceral experience which disrupts the ability to remain a passive viewer. Now’s your chance. In this animated, metaphoric tale of timeless wisdom, based on the eponymous short story by Georgi Gospodinov, Academy Award® nominated director Theodore Ushev (The Blind Vaysha, 2015) reminds us of the importance of being in the present moment. Vaysha’s left eye sees only the past and her right sees only the future. Like a terrible curse, her split vision prevents her from seeing the present. Trapped between two irreconcilable temporalities, she is known as the “blind Vaysha.”

Cardboard Crash

Every time we get behind the wheel, we make decisions with life and death implications. Brake or swerve? Quick! Decide! Cardboard Crash is an interactive VR experience that explores whether we’re ready to hand over such ethically fraught decisions to artificial intelligence (AI). In this self-driving vehicle, the passenger is expected to make a split second decision when confronted with an imminent collision. There is plenty of data, but no easy answer.

Mutato Match

Planets all over the galaxy are in need of creature re-population. You must help! Travelling through solar systems in a lab on a rocketship, you get to make new mutant species. These new species are needed to save the planets from extinction. Your mission, grab a specimen in each hand and bop them together to create unique “Mutato” offspring. This VR experience is all kinds of silly fun! Mutato Match is coming soon for the HTC Vive, and available to R2R as an exclusive demo.

Masterpiece VR

A new way to experience 3D creation! Sculpt and paint using intuitive, dynamic and powerful tools that allow you to easily build tangible objects, colourful environments, and high quality models. You can also sculpt with friends in the same virtual room in real time! Masterpiece VR pushes the boundaries by creating an organic 3D modeling tool that is both powerful and easy to learn.

theBlu: Whale Experience

theBlu is a deeply immersive VR series that allows audiences to experience the wonder and majesty of the ocean through different habitats and come face to face with some of the most awe inspiring species on the planet. The series has been designed as beautiful moments in passing or a collection of memories that powerfully tap into the vast potential of VR. The debut episode, featuring an incredible close encounter with an 80 foot whale, is already recognized as one the most iconic room scale VR experiences to date (a Sundance Film Festival 2016 selection). Forthcoming episodes will take place on a teeming coral reef and in the very deepest region of the ocean.

Tidal Traces

With 360° capabilities, and set at the center of a dance performance, the audience is invited to follow the performers and immerse themselves in this expansive landscape. A bold and technically ambitious pursuit, Tidal Traces envelops the audience in a movement activated space. Three women express tranquility, ominous beauty, and peril through their movements as they circle a midpoint: you. Entangled in a kinetic tension, the viewer becomes the fourth character and composes the dance through their gaze.

WORKSHOPS

Come for a day full of creative expression and hands-on activities. These animation workshops offer children and families the opportunity to spark a new shared interest, hone the ability to tell a simple story, and even learn to fly. All workshops are available with the purchase of a special day pass for $5, and are on a first-come first-serve basis. Please sign up upon arrival.

pixilation

Get animated! Choreographed by the instructor, you will glide, disappear and fly through the air. This is a great introduction to special effects and stop-motion animation.

objects in motion

Using everyday office and school supplies, kids will animate objects in new, interesting and imaginative ways.

cut-out animation

A variety of pre-fashioned and cut-out materials will be used to create characters and sets. In small groups, using video capture techniques, attendees will be taken through the steps of creating a short animation.

DIY hologram

A hands-on, family-style workshop that invites youth and adults to design their own 3D digital hologram projector using their smartphones!
